You'll never run out of movies to watch on Netflix, and with over 7,000 to choose from, it can be hard to decide. That's why I've put on my streaming cap to recommend four top choices for the week, using metrics like popularity, ratings on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes, and individual preference. This week, tons of people are watching the Peaky Blinders movie, so let's start from there and dive deep into British historical crime and TV spin-offs.

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man

British TV series Peaky Blinders ran for six seasons and built up a devoted fan base for its grimy crime drama set in post-World War I London. Gang boss Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, leads his crew through good times and bad, coming into conflict with rivals including the New York Mafia. But the story wasn't done, and the creators have returned with a full-on movie, set during World War II, with the Nazis using counterfeit money to destabilize England's economy. Fans are loving it, and it even works as a standalone flick if you never watched the show.

  • Director: Tom Harper
  • Stars: Cillian Murphy, Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth
  • Genre: Drama
  • Rating: TV-MA
  • IMDb Rating: 6.7/10

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie

After the finale of Breaking Bad, many viewers wondered what would become of poor Jesse Pinkman, so creator Vince Gilligan decided to knock out a spin-off movie to continue his tale. After escaping from the Aryan Brotherhood, Jesse decides to start over far away from New Mexico, so he sets out for Alaska and a new life. Unfortunately, the journey isn't easy and brings him into conflict with faces from his past he'd rather forget.

  • Director: Vince Gilligan
  • Stars: Aaron Paul, Jonathan Banks, Matt Jones
  • Genre: Drama
  • Rating: TV-MA
  • IMDb Rating: 7.3/10

The Irishman

Legendary director Martin Scorsese doing a film for Netflix in 2019 was a big deal, especially because it reunited him with both Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. The Irishman is an epic in every sense of the word, a multi-generational tale of Frank Sheeran's life as an Irish hitman for the Italian mafia. It has much of the same vibe as Peaky Blinders, casting personal struggles against the backdrop of historical events, and has only gotten better with age.

  • Director: Martin Scorsese
  • Stars: Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci
  • Genre: Drama
  • Rating: TV-MA
  • IMDb Rating: 7.8/10

Gun City

For a different perspective on organized crime in the 1920s, head over to Spain for Gun City. Set in Barcelona against the background of anarchist violence and political upheaval, a train robbery brings an out-of-town policeman to work with Barcelona's finest, who quickly reveal themselves to be just as bad as the crooks they are hunting. Following the threads leads to a revelation: everything is connected, and nobody is innocent.

  • Director: Dani de la Torre
  • Stars: Luis Tosar, Michelle Jenner, Vicente Romero
  • Genre: Drama
  • Rating: TV-MA
  • IMDb Rating: 6.4/10
