A new month delivers the goods on HBO Max, including a slew of new and classic movies from studio partners, along with a bunch of TV shows and exclusives. This week, we recommend Charli XCX in The Moment, as well as two documentary series that will give you the creeps for very different reasons. We also have a complete list of everything new streaming on the service.

This Week on HBO Max: PCMag's Picks

The Moment (May 29)

Charli XCX is making a major career move into cinema, not just with scores and soundtracks but also by producing and starring in films. The Moment is the first past the post, a mockumentary that casts Charli as herself, getting ready for her 2024 Brat tour and dealing with intense burnout and her record company's obsession with brand deals. Critical response was mixed, but it's an enjoyable, ramshackle dive into celebrity anxiety.

  • Director: Aidan Zimiri
  • Cast: Charli XCX, Francesca Faridany, Errol Barnett
  • Genre: Mockumentary
  • Rating: R
  • IMDB Rating: 6.1/10

Bring Me the Beauties: A Model Cult (June 1)

HBO's documentaries are always a cut above. Bring Me the Beauties ostensibly is the story of Hoyt Richards, widely considered the world's first supermodel. But it's actually about a strange socialite named Frederick von Mierers and the Eternal Values organization he ran that convinced Hoyt and many of his fellow models that he was an alien from Arcturus sent here to save the hottest humans before Armageddon.

  • Director: Chris Smith
  • Stars: Hoyt Richards, Dar Dixon, Fabio
  • Genre: Documentary
  • Rating: TV-MA

Bodies in the Water: Season 1 (June 3)

HBO Max's partnership with the Investigation Discovery network means there is no shortage of true crime for murder fans to stream, and Bodies in the Water might be the grisliest we've seen in a while. Examining cases where corpses were found submerged in rivers, lakes, and worse, it dives deep into the complex forensic work that needs to be done to gather evidence and find suspects. It's cool to watch the experts reverse-engineer what happened.

  • Stars: Kimberly M. Holton, Geoffrey Noble, Ryan Benson
  • Genre: Documentary
  • Rating: TV-MA
  • IMDb Rating: 6.8/10
