Want your Spotify to be dedicated to audio streaming, rather than playing videos while you listen to music or podcasts? Two new toggles will soon let you turn them off, or you can pick which videos you want to see.
Spotify has been introducing new video tools to its service over recent years, gently building to a point where it’s difficult to avoid clips across the streamer. The new toggles seem to be a way for users to refocus on audio features and avoid visual elements.
As first reported by The Verge and Sky News journalist Rowland Manthorpe on X, Spotify first announced the new controls on April 9, saying it would introduce the two toggles soon. The changes don't appear to be live yet, with Spotify saying they'll begin rolling out to "all users globally this month."
The new options will appear on both mobile and desktop versions of Spotify. It will let you activate it for your own account or, if you have a family subscription, expand it to other members of your plan.
On mobile, the new toggle will appear under Settings > Content and display. There’s a single toggle for music videos, while another option, called All other videos, turns off elements like video podcasts and vertical videos. On its desktop version, you’ll find these options under Settings > Display.
(Credit: Spotify)Those who manage a family plan will have control over each individual account. It means you can keep the feature turned on for yourself, but you can restrict it for younger users if you don’t want them to watch videos through the streamer.
Some Spotify customers have previously suggested controls for videos, with one user reporting that their child was secretly watching Mr. Beast videos on Spotify. The parent was previously unaware that it was possible to watch videos through the streaming service. Spotify previously included video controls for family account members who are under 13.
