Spotify announced a series of podcast updates, with the most notable being a feature that lets you use its AI to create shows on demand.

The feature, called Personal Podcasts, will begin rolling out to Premium subscribers in the US next month. Once available, you can select the option from the Create tab and provide a detailed prompt in the following window.

“You can create a daily briefing, a deep dive on a topic you’re curious about, or a weekly roundup of whatever’s on your mind,” Spotify says. The feature taps world knowledge and your listening history to deliver a personalized audio output. In case you need to provide additional context, you can share text, PDFs, or links.

To make the output even better, it will let you choose a preferred voice. Since Spotify only mentions a singular “voice” here, we’re assuming the AI output won’t be capable of emulating a two-person podcast, similar to what Google’s NotebookLM and Amazon’s Alexa+ provide.

All Personal Podcasts you create will be saved to your library, and while providing the prompt, you can also mention if you’d like the feature to generate these AI podcasts on a daily or weekly basis. Earlier this month, Spotify began letting users add podcasts generated on OpenAI's Codex and Anthropic's Claude to their library.

Alongside Personal Podcasts, Spotify is launching a desktop app called Studio by Spotify Labs. The AI-powered app is designed to create audio, and with your permission, it can connect to your calendar, inbox, and notes to deliver a daily briefing. You can also use it to build playlists or short podcasts on your preferred topics.

Additionally, in the Spotify app, the streamer is adding a chatbot-like interface for podcast-related questions. Per a video demonstration, the prompt box will appear at the center of the homepage.

You can use it to launch your favorite podcast with a simple prompt, then ask follow-up questions about the episode's topics. This feature is already rolling out to Premium subscribers in the US, Sweden, and Ireland.

Another major unveiling was a new tool for AI-generated covers and remixes. This feature, built in partnership with Universal Music Group, will soon launch as an add-on for the Premium plan and allow “fans to create covers and remixes of their favorite songs from participating artists and songwriters.” A portion of the revenue generated from these covers and remixes will go to the original artists.
