Spotify Wrapped has exploded in popularity since it first rolled out in 2016, making an annual appearance on end-of-year social media feeds everywhere, and prompting music-streaming rivals like Apple and Amazon to create their own versions.
Now, Spotify is rolling out Listening Stats, a new feature that offers a weekly shareable snapshot of what you’ve been listening to over the past month. It’s available for both Free and Premium Spotify users, so you won’t need to fork over $11.99 a month to get access to it.
The new tool will show your top artists and songs from the past four weeks, as well as serve up a new playlist inspired by what you've been listening to, with new track suggestions. Listening Stats will also provide what Spotify calls a “special highlight" that “makes your listening unique," for example, when you discovered a new song.
You’ll be able to share your stats directly via apps like Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, as well as with friends who have the Spotify app.
To try out the feature, tap your profile image and select Listening Stats. Tap Share to post your weekly stats or individual highlights on your social media feed.
Apple Music rolled out a similar monthly listening recap last year.
Last year's Spotify Wrapped included (what else?) an AI integration with the help of Google’s NotebookLM, which allowed you to create an AI-generated podcast based on your year in music, with the artificial hosts discussing your picks. However, it left many people unimpressed.
In September, Spotify added the ability to free users search for and play specific songs, rather than being forced to head directly to shuffled playlists or albums, though users were limited to one song at a time before the app started to shuffle. In October, users gained the ability to simply block songs they hate, permanently stopping them from showing up in their playlists.
