Apple rolled out the second developer beta of iOS 18.2 on Monday, offering more details on how ChatGPT will be integrated with Apple Intelligence.

Like the free version of ChatGPT, the AI chatbot within iOS has daily limits, MacRumors reports. In screenshots, a menu under Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > ChatGPT says: "You'll have access to ChatGPT's advanced capabilities until you reach your daily limit," at which point "additional requests will use the basic version (of ChatGPT) for up to 24 hours."

According to OpenAI, free-tier users can use its GPT-4o model a limited number of times within a five-hour window. After that, you'll be told to use GPT-4o mini or upgrade to ChatGPT Plus.

At $19.99 per month, ChatGPT Plus unlocks unlimited image generation, increased access to advanced models, access to Advanced Voice mode, and more. Beta screenshots show the option to upgrade to ChatGPT Plus from within iOS, though tapping Subscribe opens a browser window, MacRumors reports, presumably allowing OpenAI to bypass Apple's App Store tax.

OpenAI's deal with Apple is reportedly a no-cash deal, with OpenAI essentially getting paid via exposure to Apple's huge iPhone user base and, ideally, via increased ChatGPT Plus subscriptions. Apple also says it may incorporate other chatbots like Google's Gemini (and even charge $20 per month for its own Apple Intelligence features), but for now, it's just ChatGPT.

Apple is expected to roll out iOS 18.2 in early December. It will also include Apple Intelligence additions like the Image Playground app—which lets you generate animated, illustrated, and sketched AI images—and Genmoji, which enables you to create your own AI-generated emoji.

The first wave of Apple Intelligence features launched with iOS 18.1 in late September and included features like Writing Tools and small upgrades to Photos and Siri.
