Disney+ has launched a new Top Ten feature that showcases the most popular shows in your country or territory on a given day.

The recommendations will reflect your account’s settings; it won’t, for example, show more mature content in the Top Ten list of a family account. Recommendations will also reflect your subscription level, meaning you won’t get recommendations for Hulu or Max content unless you've forked out for the bundle introduced in July.

Disney explained that the algorithm might be slightly more complex than meets the eye. The Top Ten list won’t exclusively reflect exactly what series are getting the most views on a particular day. It will also take into account factors like momentum, or which series are having their viewership grow the fastest. The ranking will also consider viewers' engagement at an episode level, which may help them identify when new episodes have been released.

The Top Ten will not be available on Junior Mode profiles at launch.

The move comes four years after Netflix first introduced Top Ten features for US viewers in February 2020.

Hopefully, Disney+ subscribers will find the feature useful, as the streaming service recently hiked the prices on almost all of its subscription plans. Ad-supported Disney+ Basic increased from $7.99 to $9.99 per month, while Ad-free Disney+ Premium shot up from $13.99 to $15.99.

At the same time, it's also cracking down on users sharing their passwords, charging an extra $6.99 or $9.99 per month to add additional users to Basic and Premium plans.

Disney+ has put out plenty of new features in 2024, including "continuous playlists," which show a series of pre-selected content, much like a traditional TV channel, with flavors including "seasonal," "epic stories," "throwbacks" and "real life.”
