Apple beat Spotify out of the gate today with its annual, personalized wrap-up of what you listened to most on Apple Music this year.

Apple Music Replay offers subscribers with a look back at their top songs, albums, artists, genres, and more for 2022. Superfans can also see if they're in the top 100 listeners of their favorite artist or genre, Apple says.

In the Apple Music app, look for the Replay section on your home screen. Tapping it will bring you to a web player at replay.music.apple.com. Log in with the Apple ID you use for Apple Music, and Replay will show your listening highlights in a story-like format.

“When we first launched Replay, the feature became an instant fan favorite on Apple Music, and we really wanted to develop the experience further and make it even more special, personal, and unique for subscribers,” Oliver Schusser, Apple’s VP of Apple Music and Beats, said in a statement. “The music we enjoy throughout the year becomes like a soundtrack, and it’s really fun to be able to go back and relive those meaningful and memorable moments over again.”

New in 2022 is that personalized highlight reel, which looks a lot like what Spotify does with its own Wrapped feature. We should see Spotify's version by week's end; in recent years, it's released Spotify Wrapped on Dec. 1 and Dec. 2. (Update: It's hereIt's here.)

Depending on your December listening habits, your Replay could change in the next month, so check back on Dec. 31 for the final verdict. A truncated version of the site is available all year, Apple says, provided you've spent enough time listening for Apple to create a Replay.

"Once the new year begins, keep listening on Apple Music to explore and share new 2023 insights each week," Apple says.

My Experience

I started out covering tech policy in DC for The National Journal, where my beat included state-level tech news and all the congressional hearings and FCC meetings I could handle. I later covered Wall Street trading tech before switching gears to consumer tech. I now lead PCMag's news coverage.

My Areas of Expertise

Getting my start in DC means I still have a soft spot for tech policy; Congressional hearings can sometimes be as entertaining as a Bravo reality show, for better or worse. But PCMag is all about the technology we use every day, as well as keeping an eye out for the trends that will shape the industry in the years ahead (or flop on arrival). I've covered the rise of social media, the iOS vs. Android wars, the cord-cutting revolution that's now left us with hefty streaming bills, and the effort to stuff artificial intelligence into every product you could imagine. This job has taken me to CES in Vegas (one too many times), IFA in Berlin, and MWC in Barcelona. I also drove a Tesla 1,000 miles out west as part of our Best Mobile Networks project. Of late, my focus is on our hard-working team of reporters at PCMag, guiding and editing their robust coverage.
