Spotify has introduced a new automatically generated playlist called Friends Mix.

The company says Friends Mix, which is launching on Spotify's iOS and desktop apps, is meant to "help listeners discover new and familiar tracks based on what’s trending among friends." But getting the new playlist to appear isn't as simple as connecting with a few of your friends.

Friends Mix builds on a feature called Blend that Spotify officially launched in September 2021. Blend lets Spotify users connect with each other to generate a playlist based on their listening habits; Friends Mix will collect music from multiple Blends to create a sort of meta social playlist.

Spotify says the Friends Mix playlist will appear in the Made For You Hub after someone creates at least three Blends with their friends. (Which means at least four users—the individual and one person for each Blend—will have to use the Blend feature to make the Friends Mix appear.)

"Friends Mix is updated daily, so there’s always something fresh to discover, and it’s designed to grow with you and your friends over time," Spotify says. "So as you create more Blend playlists with your BFFs, you’ll find plenty of new music to share and uncover together."
