Abode's smart home security system just got better with a new $129.99 smart lock that fits over your existing hardware for easy installation and comes with a keypad and fingerprint reader.

One of the most challenging parts of owning a smart lock is the installation. While changing a door lock is relatively simple, smart locks throw in extra difficulties, like feeding through wiring from one side of the door to the other. And if you don't own your home, chances are you're not allowed to replace the lock.

Abode's smart lock (simply dubbed Abode Lock) bypasses some of those difficulties. It's a retrofit smart lock, similar to offerings from August and SwitchBot. The lock slips over "standard" deadbolts and turns that for you, preventing the need to install new hardware in your door. You can continue to use your existing key, and the keyhole on the outside of the door remains the same. If you have a landlord, that should appease them (though check first).

The lock itself is Wi-Fi-capable and can connect to the Abode app for remote capabilities. It includes a 4,000mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery that Abode claims will last 12 months with "average use." With Abode's security and smart home subscription plan, you'll get more features like scheduling and geolocation-based locking.

The Abode lock also comes with a keypad you can attach near or on your door. It has a fingerprint reader and connects to the lock over Bluetooth. With the keypad, you can store up to 50 fingerprints across 10 unique users and up to 10 unique PIN codes. You can also grant guest access, or schedule temporary PINS that automatically revoke.

You can buy the Abode lock now through its website for $129.99.
