LG Electronics is working on an Android tablet for possible shipment in the fourth quarter, according to a report.

Since LG showed off a Windows 7-powered tablet at the Computex show in Taiwan, The Wall Street Journal's report that LG is designing an Android-powered tablet should not be a surprise. In January, LG president and chief executive Skott Ahn said that by 2012, he wanted LG "become one of the global top two" in smartphones.

"LG … is certainly set to take advantage of the momentum we are seeing [with Android]," Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi told eWEEK after LG's January announcement.
