Nokia and Intel have released a preview of the MeeGo mobile phone software to developers, the head of the MeeGo technical steering group announced in a blog post.

The Intel-Nokia MeeGo joint project aims to merge the efforts of the Intel Moblin mobile OS with the Nokia-led Maemo operating system.

The MeeGo Handset Day 1 code, which includes APIs, the Core OS, an application launcher, and other features, is available for immediate download at meego.com. Interested developers can preview the code and try it out using Aava Mobile or the Nokia N900. A video on MeeGo 1.1 is available here.
