Comcast has announced a five-year price-lock guarantee for its Xfinity internet plans.
New customers can lock their prices for plans ranging from $55 to $105 per month. These plans don't require an annual contract; here's the breakdown based on download/upload speeds:
- 400/150 Mbps: $55 per month
- 600/150 Mbps: $70 per month
- 1.1 Gbps/300 Mbps: $85 per month
- 2.1 Gbps/300 Mbps: $105 per month
Each plan includes unlimited data, an Xfinity mobile line for 12 months, and the Xfinity Gateway device—a combination of a modem and a router. You can add new mobile lines for $20 a month per line. If you plan to use your own router, unlimited data may cost an extra $30 a month.
The promotion is available until June 23, but Comcast tells Engadget it may be extended beyond that date.
The offer comes with a few minor caveats, though. It only locks the monthly rates. You will have to pay extra for installation and any hikes to taxes and other fees. Those who don’t sign up for paperless billing and autopay will have to pay an extra $8 per month for payments made via credit or debit card. The fine print on Xfinity’s website also states that each mobile line will experience reduced speeds after 30GB of usage.
Comcast’s price lock offer comes as it loses customers to wireless providers like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, Reuters notes. We recently reviewed the home internet offerings from AT&T and T-Mobile, and T-Mobile had a slight edge.
Earlier this month, Verizon also announced a 3-year price lock program for its mobile plans.
