Samsung's July Unpacked saw the introduction of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, Watch 8, and even a cheaper foldable called the Z Flip 7 FE. Some fans had been anticipating a teaser for the company’s first ever trifold phone, but there was no sign of the innovative folding design at Unpacked.

Samsung has now confirmed a trifold is in development, and it may even arrive by the end of the year. During the Unpacked event, Samsung’s head of mobile, TM Roh, told The Korea Times that the company is considering a launch later this year.

TM Roh said, “We are working hard on a trifold smartphone with the goal of launching it at the end of this year. We are now focusing on perfecting the product and its usability, but we have not decided its name. As the product nears completion, we are planning to make a final decision soon.”

Samsung is so far along with trifold design that the latest One UI 8 build even has hidden elements that show diagrams of a trifold device. Those give us a clear idea of the look Samsung is aiming for, and it's likely to be similar to the G Flex concept device the brand showed at MWC 2025. You can see that concept at the top of this article.

TM Roh's comments suggest Samsung is figuring out how to bring the device to market. Elsewhere at Samsung Unpacked, an unnamed company executive told Android Authority that a trifold device is ready to go into production, but the company has yet to figure out if there’s enough demand to justify it.

The executive said, "We’ve had a tri-fold for some time, designed and everything. So it’s not a new concept to us. What we’re debating is the viability. When I say the viability, is there really a demand for this form factor?" The executive confirmed the company is "deeply investigating" whether it's worth putting into production.

This executive seems less certain of a release than TM Roh himself, so it's currently unclear whether Samsung will have a third foldable form factor on sale later this year.

Samsung is also rumored to be bringing its Android XR headset to market before the end of the year. It may be that Samsung launches this alongside a trifold phone in a third Unpacked launch for 2025.

Project Moohan is the codename for the device. A recent leak suggests Samsung plans to launch the device in a limited capacity before the end of October. That same source says the company plans to make 100,000 units for its initial run.
