Fossil has decided to not make any more smartwatches.

The group announced plans Friday to end its smartwatch endeavors and instead focus on its non-connected watches.

Fossil, which makes Wear OS smartwatches, has been one of the largest manufacturers of the watches in recent years. The Verge notes that Fossil’s exit from the market will likely leave a large gap in the Wear OS smartwatch space.

Fossil’s most recent smartwatch was the Gen 6, which it launched in 2021. The company was expected to announce a Gen 7 of the watch using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Plus platform last year; however, that announcement never came to fruition. Fossil also wasn’t present at CES.

The Gen 6 will be the company’s last smartwatch, and the company says it has plans to keep the device updated “for the next few years.”

If you’re in the market for a new smartwatch, you still have a fairly decent number of options to choose from. Our top pick continues to be the Apple Watch Series 9; however, we also recommend the Garmin Venu Sq 2, and Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, amongst others.
