Developer CD Projekt Red has confirmed that its 2015 title The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will receive a major update for release on next-gen consoles, but also on PC.

The PS5, Xbox Series X, and the latest generation of graphics cards for PCs all promise to deliver a number of performance and feature improvements. The Witcher 3 will take advantage of them all, with CD Projekt Red promising "a range of visual and technical improvements." Top of the list will be support for ray tracing and much faster load times, especially on the next-gen consoles with their custom solid-state drives.

The improvements won't be limited to the base game, though. The updated versions will include both expansions and any additional content released for the title. Interestingly, the PC is listed as getting a standalone purchase option alongside the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions. So it looks as though a new SKU will be available on PC.

Existing owners of the game are going to be happy to hear that all the improvements will be offered as a free update, and that includes the game on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. If you needed a reason/excuse to upgrade your gaming rig to a Nvidia RTX 3080, this is it! What's unclear is when exactly the update will be released and how the upgrade option will work for PS4/Xbox One owners. All should become clear once we have a release date confirmed, though.
