Alongside the iOS 26.4 update for iPhone, Apple released macOS 26.4 on Tuesday, bringing various features to Macs and MacBooks, though most of the highlights are MacBook-focused.

The big surprise feature is a new Slow Charger indicator that shows when your MacBook is using an accessory that doesn’t meet Apple's minimum recommended wattage. The feature was first spotted by 9to5Mac in an Apple support document.

"When using macOS Tahoe 26.4 or later, your Mac can report that it’s charging slowly: 'Slow Charger' appears in the battery status menu and above the Battery Level graph in Battery settings," according to Apple, which recommends that anyone who sees this warning switch to another charger to improve charging times—and solve a problem many wouldn’t know they had without this notification.

That’s not the only battery upgrade in macOS 26.4, which now includes a Charge Limit feature similar to the one on iOS. It means that on a MacBook, you can set a maximum charging limit so it won’t exceed that when plugged in, thereby improving your battery’s overall lifespan.

You’ve got the choice of 80%, 85%, 90%, 95%, or a full battery. You’ll need to manually turn off Charge Limit if you ever want to top up to the full charge for a long journey. This feature sits alongside Optimized Battery Charging in Apple's System Settings.

Safari also regained its compact tab bar, allowing for a slimmer design, which was an option removed in the original macOS 26.4 release.

Other changes include expanded payment options for accounts using Family Sharing, improved menu options for subtitles and captions, and eight new emoji, including Bigfoot, a treasure chest, and a killer whale.

You’ll also begin to see notifications for applications that will become obsolete with macOS 27. It’s about apps designed with Rosetta 2, software that lets Intel-based apps run on Apple's most recent Mac products. Apple announced at WWDC 2025 that it would be discontinuing the feature in a future version of its software, and now you’ll start seeing alerts to let you know it’s happening, which may help you start looking for new software alternatives.

You can download macOS Tahoe 26.4 via System Settings > Software Update.
