Pre-orders begin Aug. 12 for the next generation of Android Wear-powered Fossil smartwatches.

First teased in March, the Q Wander and Q Marshal (pictured) feature touch-screen displays and your choice of metal, silicone, or leather strap.

Each boasts an always-on display in a 45 mm casing, the ability to respond to messages via touch or voice commands, and Google Now card notifications. Compatible with Android and iOS smartphones, the new smartwatches start at $295, and also provide activity tracking, customizable watch faces, automatic time zone updating, and integration with Google Fit, Under Armour, Jawbone, and MyFitnessPal.

The Wander is focused on design (with its "soft curving") while the Marshal is meant for more rugged use. The back of each device connects to the included magnetic charging unit.

"Q Wander and Q Marshal beautifully marry form and function for a stunning addition to your everyday style," Fossil's Chief Creative Officer Jill Elliott said in a statement. "These slim yet highly functional smartwatches reflect the elevated design of a Fossil watch while incorporating a digital experience that's important to today's customer."

Meanwhile, Fossil in March also unveiled the upgraded Q Motion wearable, now with smart tap technology for playing music, finding your phone, or taking a selfie. The device—available in a range of colors—tracks activity and sleep, and lasts up to six months on a single charge. Plus, it is water-resistant up to 50 meters, and comes with a new cylindrical design.

The watchmaker also plans to launch traditional analog timepieces with some smart features this fall. The Q Tailor and Q Nate will come with analog dials, but alert users via Bluetooth when they receive incoming calls or important notifications.

Also in the works: smart devices from some of Fossil's luxury brands, including Emporio Armani, Chaps, Diesel, Kate Spade New York, Michael Kors, and Skagen.

Fossil is one of the many traditional manufacturers—like Breitling—that views smartwatches as an important next frontier.
