Just days after launching the redesigned Kindle e-reader, Amazon is sold out of the device.

Both the $189 and $139 versions are listed as "temporarily sold out," with an invitation to pre-order one of the new readers and reserve a place in line to buy one.

Although orders will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, any order placed Monday should be filled by Sept. 4, Amazon said.

The $379 Kindle DX is also listed as "in stock". Perhaps not surprisingly, that e-reader never sold out, either at its lower price or its original price of $489.

The new Kindle adds a brighter screen and integrated Wi-Fi. The device's new version 2.5 firmware allows for tweeting and Facebook status updates, as well as reading e-books.
