Amazon's Kindle for iPad and Kindle for iPhone and iPod touch apps were updated Monday morning, and now include the ability to access embedded video and audio clips in Kindle books.

Some of the first books to include the new technology are already available, including Rick Steves' London 2010, which includes audio walking tours that can be listened to while readers follow the text.

Additional titles include Together We Cannot Fail by Terry Golway, which features audio from 30 of FDR's most famous speeches, and Rose's Heavenly Cakes by Rose Levy Beranbaum, with video cooking tips. Bird Songs: 250 North American Birds in Song by Les Beletsky, includes audio clips of birds. Knitting for Dummies by Tracy Barr, includes video demonstrations for six different knitting techniques, which should make it much easier to learn how to knit if you're a beginner.

In related news, the Kindle for iPhone app also includes support for the retina display on the new iPhone 4, which was released last week. The updated Kindle apps are now available for free download in the Apple App Store.
