Sony will unveil the latest version of its PlayStation VR during an exclusive press event next month.

Scheduled for March 15 in San Francisco, attendees will get their hands on Sony's VR gadget days before the annual Game Developers Conference expo.

Sony PlayStation VR press event 2016Sony first revealed PlayStation VR, then known as Project Morpheus at GDC 2014, and showed off an updated version at last year's show. The CEO of GameStop said recently that PlayStation VR will make its debut in the fall (though nothing has been confirmed on that front), so next month's event will likely include details about a release date and pricing.

Like most modern virtual-reality devices, PlayStation VR is placed over the user's face, providing immersive gaming experiences through its goggles, which stream content from a PlayStation 4 console. That includes PS VR games like Eagle Flight, The Modern Zombie Taxi Co., 100ft Robot Golf, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, Rez Infinite, Ace Combat 7, and Golem—a PlayStation VR exclusive.

The headset will eventually enter a crowded market, filled with rivals like the Facebook-owned Oculus Rift, HTC ViveSamsung Gear VR, and Google Cardboard. Google, meanwhile, is rumored to be working on a high-tech device that's more like Samsung's Gear VR than its own Cardboard.

At MWC this week, we saw new VR entries from LG, while Samsung took Unpacked attendees on a roller coaster ride courtesy of the Gear VR.
