Sony's VR efforts are ramping up ahead of next year's PlayStation VR launch.

During the weekend's PlayStation Experience event in San Francisco, the console maker announced a handful of upcoming titles from Ubisoft, Double Fine, Namco Bandai, and Highwire Games.

Fans can look forward to programs like Eagle Flight, The Modern Zombie Taxi Co., 100ft Robot Golf, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, Rez Infinite (above), Ace Combat 7, and Golem—a PlayStation VR exclusive.

Debuting to "an enthusiastic crowd" over the weekend, Golem marks Highwire's first game as an independent studio.

Also slated for next year is first-person exploration game Eclipse from White Elk (pictured), Refract's survival racer Distance, semi-educational Classroom Aquatic from Sunken Places, and Owlchemy Labs' Job Simulator.

Each title brings its own style to the increasingly popular virtual reality world, expected to grow even larger with the arrival of the PlayStation VR—previously code-named Project Morpheus.

Sony showed off its virtual reality headset last year, hoping to compete in a burgeoning market with Facebook-owned Oculus Rift, as well as devices from HTC and Steam, Samsung, and Google.

Like other wearable machines, the gadget is placed over a person's face and provides a completely virtual gaming experience through its goggles. PS VR, however, relies on the PlayStation 4 console to provide content.

"With the launch of PlayStation VR in 2016, PlayStation will continue to evolve how you play games," Shawn Layden, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, wrote in a blog post.
