Steps and calories burned are nice, but Garmin's new quatix 3 takes activity tracking up a notch with features that will help you out on the high seas.

The quatix 3 has "cruising, fishing and sailing capabilities," according to Garmin. No, it can't pilot its own craft, but the device will provide a boat's captain with marine-specific features like up-to-date tide data, an anchor alarm that warns of drift, and a calculator to figure out the proper length of anchor line to put out.

Sailors can also tap into tack assist, race countdown timer, distance to start line, and time to burn, while fishing enthusiasts will have access to a competition timer and fish catch log.

The quatix 3 is water rated to 100 meters (about 328 feet), and sports a scratch-resistant, glass-fiber reinforced domed sapphire lens. Plus, it lasts up to 20 hours on a single charge in GPS mode, 50 hours in UltraTrac mode, or six weeks when in watch mode.

The $599.99 smartwatch is expected to hit shelves in the first quarter of this year.

Even if you're not much of a seaman, Garmin's activity tracker comes with multisport functions for golfing, rowing, swimming, hiking, skiing, running, and more. Also track steps, mileage, and sleep, then wirelessly upload data to the Garmin Connect mobile app.
