GoPro last year teased a new line of "multi-rotor helicopters" outfitted with high-definition cameras.

A year of prototyping later, the company this week released two minutes of swooping, cinematic video, captured with a developmental model.

Last winter, reports said GoPro's drones would go on sale in late 2015, with a price tag of $500 to $1,000. CEO Nick Woodman later tipped an early 2016 launch aimed at consumers.

"It's incredible to see our world from new perspectives," Woodman said about drones during May's Code Conference. "It's a real 'Oh my God' moment."

Surely that's the same reaction GoPro is hoping for when people watch this week's video, which highlights the unnamed quadcopter and its stabilization system. The company is quick to point out that the footage, which was shot using a Hero4 camera in 1440p, was not altered.

"The featured video was captured with a developmental prototype of GoPro's quadcopter and stabilization system," the YouTube description said. "No post-production stabilization was implemented; this is an example of the incredible image quality we are already able to capture at this advanced prototype stage."

Published on Wednesday, the stunning film may have been GoPro's way of distracting from its latest quarterly results. While international business almost tripled, sales in the Americas dropped 7 percent.
