Tron iAd

Apple on Tuesday launched its first iAd for the iPad, featuring Disney's upcoming movie "Tron Legacy."

"Disney and Apple are excited to debut the 'Tron Legacy' iAd today as a special preview of iAd for iPad, which launches next year," Disney and Apple said in a joint statement. "iAd brings 'Tron's' pulsing energy and vivid graphic style to iPad's stunning display, creating a truly immersive ad experience."

The "Tron" iAd is just a taste; more iPad iAds will make their debut in 2011, an Apple spokesperson told PCMag.

The "Tron" iAd was first reported by AdAge. Apple's iAds is its mobile advertising platform which was launched along with iOS 4 in April. Apple has said that more than half of the top 25 major advertisers on Ad Age's list of "100 Leading National Advertisers" participate in iAds.

The "Tron" iAd "includes close to 10 minutes of video, images from the movie, a theater locator with showtimes, and a preview of the movie soundtrack with the option to purchase on iTunes without leaving the ad," Ad Age said, adding that users will be able to send an e-mail within the application.

According to Ad Age, the ad should be available within media-related apps such as TV Guide for iPad. However, an Apple spokesperson said that it will only roll out to individuals in Disney's targeted ad audiences.

Until the launch of the "Tron" ad, iAds were only available on the iPhone and iPod touch. Currently iAds are available in the U.S., the U.K., and France, but the platform will debut in Germany in January.
