Difficulty is one of the biggest hurdles preventing many people from building their own websites. Dorik removes that obstacle, as the website builder features a powerful, intuitive editing interface that doesn't require coding knowledge. The service is a novice-friendly way to create a website, but it no longer offers a free tier, which limits its appeal. Likewise, its lackluster e-commerce options place it behind our Editors' Choice winners, the more robust Duda and Wix.

Prices and Plans

When we first reviewed Dorik, it offered a limited but respectable free tier, making it potentially a viable alternative to other free website builders, including Wix. Unfortunately, that free tier is gone. Now, you can only sign up for a 14-day free trial, which lets you create up to five sites under a Dorik subdomain. After that trial period, you're forced into a paid plan if you want to continue using the builder.

Dorik's has two hosting plans. For $18 per month, the Personal tier gives you one custom domain and the ability to build unlimited sites. It also removes the company's branding and lets you use custom code. For $39 per year, the Business tier lets you export code and invite 10 collaborators to work on your site. These prices are in line with competing website builders from Bluehost WonderSuite and Web.com.

You can also opt for a one-time payment to avoid a subscription and use Dorik forever. The Personal tier costs $249, while the Business tier costs $599. Note, you'll still have to pay more to add additional domains. Dorik also has Agency plans for businesses, but you must contact the company to get a quote. That tier includes agency branding, client billing, and white-label docs, while removing limits on custom domains and collaborators.

Building a Site With Dorik

You can build a Dorik-powered site from scratch or choose from more than 100 website templates. Dorik's template library features well-rounded themes, including ones for fitness, food, marketing, and personal portfolios. That said, 100 templates is a bit low compared with Wix, a website builder with nearly one thousand templates. You can chalk this up to Dorik being relatively new.

Like many website builders, Dorik doesn't let you switch templates after selecting one. However, the ability to import and export HTML/CSS/JS code makes it easy to keep your work if you switch templates or move to another platform.

Instead of writing code, you customize your site by dragging and dropping various interactive elements. They include common website features, such as text blocks, image galleries, and social media icons. There are about 20 elements in total, which is on the low side. However, that makes customization an incredibly simple process, as you don’t need to wrap your head around too many possibilities. If you're paying for custom code, this is where you use it.

Beyond that, it's pleasantly simple to add pages, adjust rows and columns, alter color and fonts, write metadata, and see how your site renders on different displays. Google Analytics integration handles your traffic monitoring needs. There's also a basic image editor that lets you adjust the size and alignment, add a link, or tweak the filter and background color.

Dorik offers 250 UI Blocks, which are cool, prefab combos of graphics and example text to suit certain purposes. This way, you can quickly add sections that advertise a newsletter or ask customers to rate your service. Of course, you can customize the blocks you add to your pages.

AI Tools

Other site builders, such as Hostinger and Squarespace, are steadily introducing tools for AI generation and advanced responsive design. Dorik does the same with its suite of robust AI tools that make site creation easier and faster than before.

You can use AI to generate a site completely from scratch—just give your site a name and a brief description. I made Dorik generate a blog celebrating history's best video games. After a few seconds, it provided a layout that highlighted Call of Duty and Mario, wrote text describing the site's mission, and made a subscription button so readers could check out future reviews. You can use AI to further customize your site by changing the text length and tone, or generating AI images.

E-Commerce Options

Dorik's has useful site tools, but they’re best for personal websites. Many individuals and organizations rely on websites to sell products, and Dorik has weak e-commerce chops. You can place a button on your site to accept online payments as well as sell member subscriptions. Ecwid and other third-party integrations expand your options. You can technically sell products, but don't expect to create a full-on web store with hundreds of product listings or tracking information. GoDaddy Website Builder offers superior e-commerce tools.

I appreciate the paywall customization options available in both tiers, but they aren't a replacement for robust e-commerce. It's telling that Dorik's sample template for a web store only sells one product. There's also a template for an NFT marketplace, but the less said about that, the better.

Uptime and Customer Support

Uptime is extremely important. After all, you don’t want your brand associated with shoddy service. Fortunately, Dorik promises excellent uptime for your site. Dorik lets you view a status page that monitors for significant outages.

Even with a builder as easy as Dorik, the website-building process may still prompt you to ask questions. Fortunately, Dorik offers multiple ways for you to find answers to your burning queries. The company has robust forums for discussing many topics, useful FAQ pages, and 24/7 live webchat support with knowledgeable representatives who are quick to respond in just a few minutes. You can also email questions to the team, but you cannot call them on the phone.

Jordan Minor

Principal Writer, Software

My PCMag career began in 2013 as an intern. Now, I'm a senior writer, using the skills I acquired at Northwestern University to write about dating apps, meal kits, programming software, website builders, video streaming services, and video games. I was previously a senior editor at Geek.com and have written for The A.V. Club, Kotaku, and Paste Magazine. I'm the author of the gaming history book Video Game of the Year: A Year-by-Year Guide to the Best, Boldest, and Most Bizarre Games from Every Year Since 1977, and the reason everything you know about Street Sharks is a lie.

The Technology I Use

I use the newest Android and iOS smartphones for testing, but I currently use an iPhone 14 as my personal phone. I just hate that we gave up headphone jacks.

I've always favored gaming laptops over desktops. On that note, I have a 16-inch HP Envy with an Intel Core i9-13900H CPU and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU. No matter what machine I’m working on, an alarming amount of my personal and professional life revolves around cloud-synced Google Drive files.

For food subscriptions, my household sticks with CookUnity and HelloFresh for meals. Video streaming is a bit more complicated. While there are too many services to list, we're subscribed to most of the major ones. These days, I find myself drawn to HBO Max's movies and shows, as well as Peacock's reality trash.

I've been a lifelong Nintendo fan, and I sincerely believe the Nintendo Switch will go down as one of the best gaming consoles of all time. It has an unbelievable library of new and old games from Nintendo and third-party companies. The handheld/console hybrid approach makes playing games so much more flexible, a legacy that continues with the Nintendo Switch 2 and Valve’s Steam Deck.
