It might seem like an April Fools' joke, but the Amazon Dash is real.

The small device is available to Amazon Prime members, who can use them to easily re-order a particular product with the touch of the Dash button. Do you regularly run out of laundry detergent? Affix a Tide button near your washing machine, and press the button when you're running low. Amazon will automatically place an order for more detergent, which will be delivered in two days or less, via Amazon Prime.

Dash is designed for products that you buy repeatedly, like cleaning products, toilet paper, and even Keurig cups. Partners include Bounty, Smartwater, Huggies, Tide, Gerber, and more.

Users set up the Dash through the Amazon mobile app, where you choose which product you want a specific Dash unit to order and which payment method you want to use. The button connects to your home Wi-Fi network.

Don't worry, you'll get a smartphone alert whenever an order is placed, so you can cancel it if you (or a curious child) presses the button accidentally. Also, the button will stop taking orders after you press the button until that order is delivered to (once again) prevent accidental or excessive purchases.

Dash is invite-only at the moment, but you can sign up online to receive an invite.

Antonio Villas-Boas

Junior Analyst, Consumer Electronics

Before becoming PCMag’s Junior Consumer Electronics Analyst, Antonio graduated from Colgate University with a BA in History where he, upon writing his nine millionth essay, never thought he would ever write ever again, especially for a living. After working in PR and sales, Antonio realized his knowledge and passion for technology far exceeded normal levels, and, ironically, writing about it was one of his few outlets. He decided to take a risk and go on his own. He started his blog, TonyVsTech.com, and was freelancing tech related articles for major tech outlets, namely producing how-to tutorial videos for TheUnlockr.com. After making his own way to CES in 2014, he heard PCMag’s call for a new Junior Consumer Electronics Analyst, and answered it with gusto. He still can’t believe his job is to review cool tech and gadgets at an awesome tech publication.
