Over the past decade, video streaming services have become an entertainment juggernaut, delivering everything from schlock to Oscar-winning films. In fact, I stream all my favorite programs instead of paying for a pricey cable subscription. As PCMag’s video streaming expert, I know which services are worth your time and money. So leverage my recommendations to save cash with these Black Friday video streaming service deals.

Looking for more than just entertainment? Be sure to check out our editor-curated mega-guide to the Best Early Black Friday Deals.

Save on Sports Galore

Sports are one of the most popular forms of entertainment, but licensing deals make streaming them a tricky proposition. Fortunately, an ESPN+ subscription lets you view top-tier sports content, including live college basketball games and UFC bouts. It typically costs $119.99 per year, but you can get 12 months of action for $99.99.

One of the Best Streaming Bargains You'll Find This Black Friday

Hulu is an Editors' Choice pick with excellent original shows and all the material too adult for Disney+, even if you don't opt for the live TV add-on. And it’s even more worthwhile if you’re only paying $0.99 per month for a year, down from the usual $9.99. Catch up on The Handmaid's Tale for less than a buck per month.

Max Streaming Savings Through Summer

It no longer has the HBO branding, but Max is still the home to classic shows like Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, and The Wire. Max also streams DC superhero content, Discovery reality shows, and animation from Cartoon Network and Studio Ghibli. Max’s monthly, ad-supported subscription normally costs $9.99, but the price is slashed to $2.99 per month (for six months).

A Year of Peacock at 75% Off (!)

Peacock covers all bases when it comes to mainstream entertainment. Iconic network comedies and dramas from NBC? Check. Hit films from Universal? Check. Unhinged Bravo reality TV? Check. Peacock may not offer a free tier anymore, but you can save a considerable 75% by purchasing an annual subscription for $19.99 instead of $79.99. Or spend just $1.99 for six months.

Save on the Very Flexible Plex

Plex isn’t your typical video streaming service. With Plex, you place all your digital media files, from videos to music to pictures, onto a personal online server and stream from there. You’ll never have to worry about space again with a Plex Pass. Right now, a lifetime Plex Pass costs $89.99 with code FANSFIRST25, down from the normal $119.99.

Jordan Minor

Jordan Minor

Principal Writer, Software

My PCMag career began in 2013 as an intern. Now, I'm a senior writer, using the skills I acquired at Northwestern University to write about dating apps, meal kits, programming software, website builders, video streaming services, and video games. I was previously a senior editor at Geek.com and have written for The A.V. Club, Kotaku, and Paste Magazine. I'm the author of the gaming history book Video Game of the Year: A Year-by-Year Guide to the Best, Boldest, and Most Bizarre Games from Every Year Since 1977, and the reason everything you know about Street Sharks is a lie.

The Technology I Use

I use the newest Android and iOS smartphones for testing, but I currently use an iPhone 14 as my personal phone. I just hate that we gave up headphone jacks.

I've always favored gaming laptops over desktops. On that note, I have a 16-inch HP Envy with an Intel Core i9-13900H CPU and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU. No matter what machine I’m working on, an alarming amount of my personal and professional life revolves around cloud-synced Google Drive files.

For food subscriptions, my household sticks with CookUnity and HelloFresh for meals. Video streaming is a bit more complicated. While there are too many services to list, we're subscribed to most of the major ones. These days, I find myself drawn to HBO Max's movies and shows, as well as Peacock's reality trash.

I've been a lifelong Nintendo fan, and I sincerely believe the Nintendo Switch will go down as one of the best gaming consoles of all time. It has an unbelievable library of new and old games from Nintendo and third-party companies. The handheld/console hybrid approach makes playing games so much more flexible, a legacy that continues with the Nintendo Switch 2 and Valve’s Steam Deck.
