Back at CES in January, Samsung teased us with a high-end Chromebook complete with Galaxy branding. On April 6, the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook is finally set to launch.
As The Verge reports, the 2-in1 Galaxy Chromebook will be available to buy from next Monday for $999 either directly from Samsung or through Best Buy. There will be a choice of Mercury Gray or Fiesta Red casing colors surrounding the 13.3-inch 4K OLED display. Inside, there's a 10th-generation Comet Lake Intel Core i5-10210U processor, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, and a 256GB SSD.
When PCMag spent some time with the Galaxy Chromebook at CES there was a lot to like. The build quality is as you'd expect for a device costing this much, colors popped off the AMOLED touch-enabled display, and the inclusion of a stylus, which is securely carried inside the casing, adds to the overall usefulness of this Chromebook.
Although it costs a thousand dollars, Samsung is clearly aiming this device at students. It can be used as a laptop, a tablet, and an entertainment device when in tent mode. There's also two cameras, one above the screen as you'd expect, but another above the keyboard. This second "world-facing" camera points away from the user when the Chromebook is in tablet mode, making it easy for students to capture images of whatever the teacher is showing them during a class or lecture.
With the world in a state of lockdown, Samsung will be well aware nobody is going to walk into a store to buy the Galaxy Chromebook. Expect all available stock to be offered for delivery, regardless of whether you choose to buy from Samsung directly or through Best Buy.
