Pop star Dua Lipa is suing Samsung for using her image on their cardboard TV boxes without permission. The lawsuit was filed in a federal court in California on Friday, and the singer is seeking $15 million in compensation for the alleged infringement.

At issue is an image of Dua Lipa taken at the Austin City Limits music festival in 2024. Per the lawsuit, the singer is the sole owner of that image, and Samsung used it in its marketing campaigns without authorization, Variety reports.

The lawsuit further states that Lipa became aware of the infringement in July 2025 and repeatedly asked the company to stop it. The Korean giant, however, ignored her demands and continued the infringement willfully, it adds.

“Samsung’s arrogance in refusing to stop its infringement confirms its conscious disregard of Ms. Lipa’s intellectual property and personal identity rights, intent on monetizing its products for its own benefit by capitalizing on the implied (false) association with Ms. Lipa as a sponsor of Samsung’s mass-marketed television sets in the boxes on which she is prominently featured,” the lawsuit claims.

The complaint presents Lipa as a “premium brand” who is selective about her partnerships and endorsements. It also includes screenshots of social media users who said they would purchase Samsung TVs just because she features on the boxes.

“I wasn’t even planning on buying a TV but I saw the box so I decided to get it,” wrote one user. “I’d get that TV just because Dua is on it,” wrote another.

Lipa and her representatives are now seeking damages, attorney fees, and a permanent injunction barring Samsung from using her copyrighted image or likeness in any form.
