Samsung is now accepting pre-orders for its Galaxy Tab S2 tablet.

Those interested in the super thin, light device can pre-order it now at Samsung.com, Amazon.com, and Best Buy; it will be available in stores in the U.S. beginning Sept. 3.

The Galaxy Tab S2 comes in in a variety of configurations. For those who just need the Wi-Fi connectivity, the 9.7-inch, 32GB version is priced at $499.99 while its smaller 8-inch counterpart is $100 cheaper at $399.99. It comes in black, white, and gold.

Galaxy Tab S2Samsung said it's working with Amazon and Best Buy to offer $100 or more off the price of a Tab S2 when you trade in your old tablet.

Pricing and availability for the LTE models headed for AT&T, Sprint, U.S. Cellular, T-Mobile, and Verizon will vary by carrier.

AT&T on Wednesday said the 9.7-inch LTE version will be available for order in stores and online this Friday for $499.99 with a two-year commitment, $599.99 with no commitment, or $30 per month for 20 months with its tablet installment pricing.

On T-Mobile, the tablet arrives on Sept. 3 for $0 down and $27.09 for 23 months and $26.92 for the 24th month ($649.99 total).

Unveiled last month, the Galaxy Tab S2 has a profile of just 5.6mm, making it Samsung's thinnest tablet yet and 16 percent slimmer than its predecessor. Thanks to its slim design, the 8-inch model weighs in at just 9.4 ounces while the 9.7-inch version is just 13.8 ounces.

Powered by Android 5.0 Lollipop and an octa-core (1.9GHz + 1.3GHz) processor, the tablet features an 8-megapixel rear camera and 2.1-megapixel front shooter, as well as 3GB RAM and a 5,870mAh battery. It sports a Super AMOLED 2,048-by-1,536-pixel display with Adaptive Display technology, which automatically adjusts screen settings to deliver the best looking images and Reading Mode, which modifies the screen's brightness levels, so you won't strain your eyes.

Other features include Multi-Window, which lets you split the screen and run two apps at once, and a fingerprint scanner so you can easily unlock the device by touching the home key. It also comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

"We set out to make the Galaxy Tab S2 the most powerful tablet we've ever created," Gary Riding, senior vice president of mobile computing at Samsung Electronics America, said in a statement. "The Tab S2 seamlessly integrates with the Samsung device family and simplifies the connected lifestyle of our consumers. It also reflects our commitment to listen to and learn from customer feedback, giving Samsung users even more of what they love."

My Experience

I'm PCMag's managing editor for consumer electronics, overseeing an experienced team of analysts covering smart home, home entertainment, wearables, fitness and health tech, and various other product categories. I have been with PCMag for more than 10 years, and in that time have written more than 6,000 articles and reviews for the site. I previously served as an analyst focused on smart home and wearable devices, and before that I was a reporter covering consumer tech news. I'm also a yoga instructor, and have been actively teaching group and private classes for nearly a decade.

Prior to joining PCMag, I was a reporter for SC Magazine, focusing on hackers and computer security. I earned a BS in journalism from West Virginia University, and started my career writing for newspapers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

The Technology I Use

My little Florida beach bungalow is brimming with smart home tech. I have a smart speaker or display in every room, allowing me to control other connected devices by voice. The Nest Hub on my bedside table lets me set wake-up alarms, control my smart light bulbs, and set the temperature on my smart thermostat. I use the Amazon Echo Show 8 on my kitchen counter to browse recipes, reorder protein powder, check the weather, and watch the news while I do dishes.

Because I suffer from allergies, air purifiers are essential. My favorite model is the Dyson Purifier Cool TP07, which doubles as a fan and continuously sends indoor pollution data to its companion mobile app.

My pitbull Bradley sheds, so a good robot vacuum is a must. I currently use a premium Ecovacs Deebot that can both vacuum and mop, empty its own dustbin, and wash its own mop cloth.

For fitness, I like to mix up my routine with cycling, indoor rowing, running, and strength training in addition to yoga. I take classes on the Tonal 2 smart strength training machine, I row indoors on an Aviron machine, and track my beach runs with an Apple Watch while listening to music on my Apple AirPods Pro. On the weekends, I love riding e-bikes like the rugged, beach-friendly Aventon Aventure for fun and fitness.

My job involves a lot of virtual meetings, so a quality webcam, microphone, and ring light are important. I use the Jabra PanaCast 20 webcam, the Elgato Wave: 3 microphone, and a Yesker tripod ring light.

As for my preferred phone platform, I'm an iPhone person, but I've also extensively used Android for product testing.
