Sonos is refocusing on its core business after a tumultuous 12 months that saw the disastrous rollout of a new app in May 2024. Part of that refocus appears to be the end of its partnership with Ikea, which offered inventive ways of hiding speaker tech in everyday furniture.

Ikea and Sonos debuted the Symfonisk range in 2019. The two companies made products such as speakers built into lamps and picture frames, and speakers designed specifically to sit on bookshelves. PCMag gave two of these products four-star reviews, citing stylish designs and strong audio performance.

However, Sonos tells The Verge it won’t make any future Symfonisk products. Although our work together has largely wound down and we won’t be releasing new products as partners, we’ll continue to support every existing Symfonisk product so customers can keep enjoying great sound in their homes for many years to come," a spokesperson says.

Ikea will sell through its existing stock, but it doesn't plan to produce any further products. So, if you’ve been eyeing a Symfonisk speaker, act quickly to ensure you can buy it.

Sonos is historically good at long-term product support. Until 2020, the brand provided software support to every speaker it had ever released, including one model from 2006, though technical limitations meant the brand discontinued some products.

It’s unclear if Ikea will now move toward partnering with a different brand to offer speaker technology in furniture items. We asked Ikea for comment and will update with any response.
