X may have found a new way to nudge users toward its Premium subscriptions. As per a recent Help Center update, free X accounts are now limited to 50 posts and 200 replies per day, down significantly from the previous limit of 2,400 posts or reposts per day.
Several social media users spotted the revised limits over the weekend, which “alleviate some of the strain on the behind-the-scenes part of X and reduce downtime and error pages,” X explains.
All other technical limits remain unchanged. Users can still send up to 500 direct messages per day, change their account email address up to four times per hour, and follow up to 400 accounts per day.
If you hit any of these limits, X will notify you with an error message. Interestingly, a part of the page still mentions the old 2,400-post limit, although this is most likely an error, Engadget notes
In case you need increased posting limits, you can subscribe to one of X’s three Premium plans. All plans increase the per-post character limit from 280 to 25,000 characters. This allows you to share more content in fewer posts and reduce the likelihood of hitting the new 50-post limit.
Basic, the cheapest tier, starts at $3 per month or $32 per year. The costlier Premium tier costs $8 per month or $84 per year, shows fewer ads, and adds a blue verification checkmark to your account. The Premium+ tier, meanwhile, starts at $40 per month or $395 per year and removes all ads. X hasn't clarified whether all subscription tiers will exempt people from the new limits. We reached out to X for more information.
Both the Premium and Premium+ plans also offer higher usage limits on Grok.
