The social network formally known as Twitter has some fresh competition today from an unexpected, yet incredibly popular service: TikTok.
The short-form video hosting service is introducing support for "text posts," which sound remarkably similar to "tweets."
In order to create a text post, TikTok users still need to access the Camera page where the text option is listed next to the more typical photo and video options. Once written, a text post can be enhanced by adding sound, for example, a song to listen to while users read your post.
The text can also be accompanied by stickers, the background color behind the text can be changed, and tags and hashtags can be included. TikTok also lets you save text posts in draft form for later editing and posting (or deletion).
Earlier today, Twitter-owner Elon Musk pulled the trigger and dropped the bird logo and Twitter name, replacing it with 'X.' Meanwhile, Meta's Threads, which started off very positively with over 100 million sign-ups, has seen traffic drop by half a little over a week since it launched.
