Facebook has reportedly been avoiding punishing conservative groups for breaking the rules it set in place over the past few months.
The goal, according to The Washington Post, was to avoid the perception of being biased against conservative groups. The Post discovered that a variety of accounts, including Donald Trump Jr., avoided scrutiny over time and punishment for breaking Facebook's most stringent rules.
The post alleges, for example, that Facebook removed an Instagram strike against Trump Jr. in a bid to keep him from being forced into the role of "repeat offender." This all appears to be in a move to avoid any perceived bias toward left-leaning media or content on the social media platform.
Though many conservative groups have come out to complain about potential bias on the platform, there has been little done to prove that said bias actually exists. President Trump has stoked the fires to these stories in the past, even going so far as to launch a special tool in the past (which is no longer active) to report "suspected political bias" directly with him.
It's unclear if Facebook is still engaged in these acts of censorship, or what its plans are for the foreseeable future. The social media platform has yet to respond to a request for comment.
