The Weather Channel Lumia App

In what was no doubt some sort of brokered deal between Nokia and The Weather Channel, everyone's favorite all-weather-all-the-time TV network has launched a highly revamped version of its Windows Phone app available only to those with a Nokia Lumia device.

The new app adds expanded international language support and enhanced alert notifications, but what really sets it apart is the new augmented reality feature. "See the weather in a new way. Simply hold up your phone camera and scan the horizon for current, user-submitted photos posted from the same direction in which you are looking," Nokia wrote in its blog.

The new app also adds new social features, including a chat function as well as a feature that allows users to see when their friends and family members are encompassed in a severe weather alert. These new features will be rolled out to other Windows Phone devices in the coming months.
