If concerns over post-crash fires for the Chevy Volt get any worse, General Motors is prepared — with ads.

Joel Ewanick, GM's chief of marketing, recently explained that the company has an advertising campaign in waiting should the situation worsen. Late last year the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that a Volt had caught fire several weeks after a crash due to a leaking battery. Since then, GM has announced a loan program, flirted with the idea of a recall, and finally made some structural changes to the Volt to prevent any future issues.

"I have a contingency plan," Ewanick told USA Today of the advertising campaign. "It's ready to go"

However, chances are we won't ever see the campaign — described as "honest" and "straightforward" — unless the negative backlash surrounding the Volt returns.
