Even if you've heard of the so-called "augmented reality" trend before, this new iOS game from Total Immersion will make your head turn. Or should we say, your face.

Unlike most 'traditional' augmented reality titles, Skinvaders uses the front-facing camera on your iPhone or iPad 2, literally bringing you into the game in real-time. Other games have tended to use your device's rear-facing camera to turn your environment into a virtual game landscape, but not you personally.

So with Skinvaders, your eyes, nose, and mouth are instantly mapped and become part of the action as aliens and other weird objects appear all over your face.

"Players are literally brought into the game as they fight the invasion of SkinVaders intent on taking over their face. The markerless tracking and rendering are so sophisticated that players can suspend belief, deeply engaging in the most personal, realistic and real-time augmented reality experience on the market today," said Total Immersion in a statement.

The game is available as a free download.
