Video doorbells are saving the holidays, but it's not just porch pirates they're able to crack down on. Sometimes the little camera inside catches a real-life Grinch trying to ruin Christmas, 9to5Google reports.

It turns out that Google's Nest Hello assisted in identifying a man who tried sabotaging at least one person's home entered into a Christmas display contest. When the perpetrator arrives, he immediately starts snipping wires. Lights continue to go out, and eventually the home is left with little-no-lights illuminated.

Courtesy of the video doorbell, the entire act was recorded and then shared with a neighborhood group on Facebook. Several people recognized the perpetrator and revealed his identity to the homeowner. Police visited the perpetrator as his residence nearby, and apparently he's been charged with criminal mischief. It's also possible he'll pay restitution for the damages on the homeowner's property.

"It was a guy that lives in the neighborhood but a good three streets away," the homeowner said in a Reddit post. "There is a local lights competition that is being judged tonight. Seemed very suspicious about the timing."

Everyone can agree: we're looking at a real-life Grinch. He may not look exactly like Dr. Seuss' illustrations or Jim Carrey's portrayal, but this behavior aligns perfectly with the popular Christmas character who despises the holiday. With that said, there's still hope he follows in the Grinch's footsteps and comes to love the holidays after reflecting on one mistake.
