Samsung is today opening pre-orders for the Odyssey G9 and G7 monitors it first introduced back as CES 2020 in January.
If you like curved and ultrawide monitors then the Odyssey lineup is certainly worth considering. Samsung is offering a QLED panel in what the company claims is the "first ever to possess a high-performance 1000R curvature." Whether you opt for the G9 or G7 models depends on your budget and the space available on your desk.
The Odyssey G9 is a 49-inch curved display offering a dual-quad resolution of 5,120-by-1,440, 32:9 aspect ratio, and peak brightness of 1,000 nits. Gamers will be happy to hear Samsung included HDR1000 support, a 1ms response time, and 240Hz refresh rate. The exterior has a glossy white finish, but also houses "infinity core lighting technology" allowing 52 different colors and five lighting effects to be projected on a wall behind the display. It's fully height-adjustable, too.
The Odyssey G7 is available in two options: 27-inch and 32-inch models. They both offer a resolution of 2,560-by-1,440, 16:9 aspect ratio, 600 nits peak brightness, and HDR600 support, as well as the same response time, refresh rate, and lighting technology found in the G9. However, the rear lighting is limited to a "subtle blue light," while Samsung added adjustable lighting to the bottom of the front bezel, and opted to make the exterior finish a matte black instead of white.
Samsung is making all three Odyssey monitors available for pre-order from today, with stock expected to ship on July 13 alongside availability at retailers. In terms of price, the G7 will cost $699.99 for the 27-inch model and $799.99 for the 32-inch model, which I suspect will result in many consumers deciding to spend another $100 for those five extra inches of screen space. As for the Odyssey G9, Samsung wants $1,699.99 for the 49-inch monitor.
