Nothing took the wraps off its 4a smartphone at Mobile World Congress, showing off all four colors behind glass before it fully announces the phone at a March 5 event in London.

BARCELONA—Nothing took advantage of the media's presence at MWC to generate buzz for its upcoming launch. The Nothing Phone 4a will be the fourth version of the company's mid-range product. After teasing its arrival earlier this month, it showed off the four colorways so everyone could get a first look.

The phone will come in four colors: black, white, pink, and blue. The phone carries forward the company's exposed industrial design, with components visible on the rear panel. Nothing has sold its "a" devices in the US, though only in a roundabout way that involves signing up for the company's developer beta program. The Nothing Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro have been in the market for about a year.

We don't know too much about the 4a phone. It's expected to have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s processor, likely with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. What's most unclear is whether the phone will rely on the company's Glyph UI, which uses a series of light patterns on the rear panel to display notifications. There don't appear to be lights on the rear of the units we saw in Barcelona, but they could still be there.

Nothing will fully reveal the Nothing Phone 4a and hopefully the Nothing Phone 4a Pro on March 5 in London. PCMag will be there to bring you the news as it happens.

My Experience

I’m PCMag’s Managing Editor for Consumer Electronics content, overseeing an experienced team of reviewers and product testers. I’ve been covering technology for more than 25 years. Prior to PCMag, I worked at outlets such as Android Authority, Fortune, InformationWeek, and Phonescoop.

The Technology I Use

My main tool for getting work done is a 14-inch MacBook Pro. It’s a silent and fast machine with a good keyboard and excellent battery life. When I’m not using my laptop, you can find me working (and relaxing) with an iPad Pro. I’ve come to rely on its 5G data connection when traveling, which makes it an essential part of my workflow.

I consider myself an audiophile. That means my office and living room audio setups are total overkill, featuring advanced receivers, turntables, and Polk Audio speakers complete with subwoofers for the best possible sound, whether I’m listening to music or watching movies. My favorite earphones for private listening are the Sony WF-1000XM6.

When on the go, I typically use an iPhone 17 Pro Max for photos, but I don’t need much of an excuse to pull out my Sony mirrorless for high-resolution photography—especially when shooting sports.
