Google is bringing Auracast support to Pixel phones.
The Bluetooth technology works on devices compatible with LE Audio and lets you stream audio to multiple devices at once. Think of it as a hotspot, but for audio.
Select Android devices from Xiaomi, POCO, and Samsung already support Auracast, but it will now also work on the Pixel 8 series or later.
(Credit: Google)To start sharing your audio, pair your device with two LE Audio-compatible headphones. If your friend's device is within the standard Bluetooth range, both of you will be able to listen to the same song, movie, or podcast at once. This feature can be particularly useful when your streaming service has expired or your phone's battery is low, but you still want to listen to music while traveling or at a cafe.
Android's LE Audio support also allows you to start a private broadcast with a larger group. You can add people to the stream by letting them scan a QR code or using Fast Pair. It's unclear how many people can be added to a stream using this feature, but Google has likened it to a silent disco.
Earlier this year, Google also introduced Auracast support for hearing aids. The move allows Android phones to connect hearing aids to broadcasts at Auracast-enabled public venues.
In addition to Pixel phones, LE Audio Auracast is currently supported on Galaxy S23 or later, Z Fold 5 or later, Xiaomi 14T, Xiaomi 14T Pro, Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi 15, Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, Xiaomi MIX Flip, POCO X6 Pro, POCO F6 Pro, POCO F7 Pro, and POCO F7 Ultra.
Many headphones and speakers support this emerging tech. You can find a detailed list on Bluetooth's website. Google has also confirmed support for select Sony models, which, according to The Verge, include the LinkBuds S, WF-1000XM5, InZone Buds, LinkBuds Open, LinkBuds Fit, WH-1000XM6, and InZone H9 II.
