Are you excited for some smartphones and some laptops?
Samsung has scheduled its first Galaxy Unpacked event of the year for Feb. 1. Samsung has dropped lots of hints about what's on deck, and it looks like it will be an exciting show for tech lovers. For many years now, Samsung has used its post-CES event to launch its flagship Galaxy S smartphones as well as sundry other products along the way. This year, it appears as though new Galaxy Book laptops are on deck. We know more about the former than we do the latter.
Thanks to a healthy supply of rumors and leaks, we have a pretty good idea what the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra will entail. For example, the design will be mostly carried over from the 2022 Galaxy S22 series, which means a 6.1-inch S23, a 6.6-inch S23+, and a 6.8-inch S23 Ultra. The phones will be made of aluminum and glass, possibly even Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and come in a variety of colors with huge rear-mounted camera lenses.
On the inside, we expect to find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile processor with plenty of RAM and storage. There's a chance the phones will offer Qualcomm's new satellite messaging feature, which the company hinted would reach a device in the near future. We also suspect the S23 Ultra, in particular, will have a massive 200MP main camera sensor, which Samsung recently announced.
Last, Samsung mobile head TM Roh declared that the phones will be compelling in a handful of ways. "The upcoming Galaxy is all about camera, performance, and sustainability," says Roh. "That’s why our pro-grade camera system is getting smarter. Our performance is getting more powerful. And our connectivity is getting more seamless."
As for the laptops, well, that's another story. Samsung debuted a range of Galaxy Book Pro hardware at Mobile World Congress in 2022, and the company is poised to bring the "ultra" status to its Galaxy Book line. We simply don't know much more than that, but there could be as many as three new models on deck, with one being a flexible 360 design.
Whether or not Samsung has anything else on deck for Galaxy Unpacked 2023, we'll have to wait until Feb. 1 to find out.
