Calling all cord cutters: Plex today introduced new global DVR capabilities that let users watch network television from anywhere in the world, on any device.

Plex DVR promises free over-the-air (OTA) access to 86 of the current 100 most-watched shows in the US (according to Nielsen). That includes major networks like ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CW, PBS, CBC, BBC, ITV, Telemundo, and Univision, as well as local programming, news, and sports. Plus, broadcast TV delivered via antenna is available immediately—no streaming delay.

The DVR pairs with any digital antenna and an HDHomeRun (HDHR) digital tuner for immediate access to broadcast TV delivered via antenna. Not ready to cut the cord completely? Plex also supports non-DRM CableCard channels on the HDHR Prime network attached digital tuner.

"We've put a lot of time into this release, and the result is a really elegant DVR, which takes advantage of all the power and intelligence of Plex," Chief Product Designer Scott Olechowski said in a statement.

Part of a larger all-in-one personal media hub, Plex DVR consolidates recordings with other media—music, photos, video—and makes it easy to access on virtually any platform: iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux, Roku, Chromecast, Amazon Fire, Nvidia Shield and other Android TV devices, Apple TV, Xbox, PlayStation, and most smart TVs.

And, just like any other digital video recorder, Plex provides show descriptions, episode synopses, and season information; it even recommends upcoming broadcasts based on viewing habits and saved content.

"Now you can view TV in a living room or on your phone, using a streaming stick in a hotel, or even on a plane when you're offline," Olechowski said. "The addition of DVR allows our customers to make Plex the heart of their media experience. No other solution comes close."

Aside from a tuner and antenna, users need only a Plex Pass, available now in beta for $4.99 per month, $39.99 per year, or $149.99 for a lifetime subscription.
