With all the advances we've seen in display technology over the past few years, it's perhaps not surprising that LG is now promising both transparent and bendable OLED displays soon. To show what's coming, it has announced an 18-inch bendable, transparent OLED.

Flexible screens are interesting because they could provide new device designs, like foldable smartphones or even watches that have a more natural fit. As an idea, these have been around for years, but making them good enough for sale has taken quite a long time. The current display can produce a resolution of 1200 by 810 and 18-inches in size. LG is planning 50-inch displays soon, and ultra-HD resolutions are planned too.

Transparent OLEDs are interesting, because they could open up a whole new world of display technology. Like head-up displays in cars, and even windows with built-in displays. At the moment, LG claims 30 per cent transmittance, which is the amount of light that will pass through the panel. LG says it will increase this over time, to 40 per cent.
