Korean electronics firm LG has transformed the fortunes of WebOS, the former mobile operating system that ran Palm devices like the Pre. You can now find this slick OS built into LG's smart televisions, and it seems to be doing well for the company, which has sold 1 million of them in just four months.

The idea of using WebOS was to take smart TVs away from their clunky, slow interfaces and bring them more life and vibrancy. This, it seems, has been a success for LG, because critics have been impressed by how the firms smart TVs work now.

The last time WebOS was seen on a device was in the HP Touchpad and the Pre 3 phone. It was always a much-loved operating system, but it suffered from many of the same problems as Blackberry, with a lack of app support and only one hardware developer. HP sold LG the rights to WebOS in 2013, and at the time LG didn't rule out a phone running the OS, but that seems less likely as LG launches its amazing G3 Android-powered phone.
