Disney+ will be adding a TikTok-style vertical video feed to its mobile app later this year.
As Deadline reports, the feed is aimed at increasing daily engagement on the app, and it will feature content across various genres, including sports, news, and entertainment.
The announcement was made at an event for advertisers at CES 2026. In a prior interview with Deadline, Disney's EVP of product management, Erin Teague, said that the feed could also include "original short-form programming, repurposed social clips, refashioned scenes from longer-form episodic or feature titles or a combination."
Apps that display short-form videos are a big hit with young people. Clips from Disney's shows and movies often see high engagement on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Companies have recognized it is important "to meet people where they are... This is what Gen Z and Gen Alpha are expecting," Teague said.
Short vertical videos are coming to Disney+ after similar rolled out to the revamped ESPN app last year. On ESPN, the Verts feed displays highlights, viral clips, and social media content. These clips are "really great as daily habits. Snackable, short, bite sized experiences," Teague added.
While announcing its AI partnership with OpenAI last month, Disney said that select user-generated clips from Sora would also be allowed on its streaming app. Though the company didn't mention adding AI videos to the new feed, it wouldn't be surprising to see them there.
Apart from the new video feed, Disney executives also announced a new set of AI ad-planning tools for advertisers. Among them is a video generation tool that helps create high-quality commercials for TV using the company's own assets and guidelines.
