Want to get up close and personal with your news? USA Today Network this spring will start broadcasting in virtual reality.

A new series, dubbed VRtually There, will highlight top stories from the music, sports, politics, money, tech, and life sections—via a dedicated page on the company's website and its VR Stories apps for iOS and Android.

At launch, VRtually There content will be updated weekly. The 360-degree stories can be viewed in their most basic form on a computer desktop, or via a headset like Google Cardboard, Samsung Gear VR, Oculus Rift, Sony PlayStation VR, or HTC Vive.

"USA Today Network has been a pioneer in virtual reality storytelling and a leader in the news space with award-winning VR content," Joanne Lipman, chief content officer of USA Today parent company Gannett, said in a statement. "We are proud of the groundbreaking VR reporting we have done across the Network."

There is a catch, however: VRtually There will be used as a vehicle for virtual reality advertising campaigns, featuring content from in-house production company GET Creative.

USA Today Network isn't the only one dipping a toe into virtual reality videos: Amazon recently posted a Glassdoor ad seeking a Senior Software Development Manager to lead a team building a virtual reality experience within the Amazon Video platform.
