Google will be increasing the cost of Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscriptions next month.

As 9to5Google reports, the Nest Aware subscription will increase by 25%, rising from $8 to $10 per month and from $80 to $100 annually. The Nest Aware Plus subscription will go up by 33%, from $15 to $20 per month and from $150 to $200 annually.

In its email to customers, Google didn’t mention the reason for the hike, but informed them that the updated prices will take effect on their first bill after Aug. 15. If you are on a promotional plan, the hike will be applied after it ends.

Reddit

Nest Aware subscriptions are tied to Google’s home security products like Nest Cams, Nest Doorbells, and Nest Hubs. They allow you to store videos for longer periods and unlock a few premium features.

By default, most of these products come with 3 hours of event video history. The Nest Aware plan allows you to extend it by 30 days, while the Nest Aware Plus plan allows you to extend it by 60 days. The latter also includes 10 days of 24/7 video history with wired Nest cams.

Additionally, both subscriptions come with a familiar face detection feature that lets you program your Google Nest device to recognize people you know and alert you if an unidentified person shows up. They also support emergency calling with the Home app and can notify you of glass breaks, smoke alarms, and carbon monoxide alarms.

Both plans were previously hiked in 2023, and early reactions to the latest hike suggest customers are unhappy. “I know this is beating a dead horse but the service has not improved consistent with these increases,” wrote one user on Reddit. “A 100% increase in price in two years for the EXACT same product is madness,” wrote another.
