You might have strong feelings that Ashley Madison is either helping or destroying lives. No matter what your moral outlook though it seems the company has the same problems as other famous sites - namely, hackers.

Except in this case it appears that the site wasn't negligent in its security, but rather the data was stolen from an insider who had some access to the company's data. Three sites are affected, the biggest of which is Ashley Madison, but the others are Cougar Life and Established Men all the sites are owned by Avid Life Media.

According to The Guardian, the Hackers are annoyed that the site charges £15 to delete a user's data completely. This means, if you've used the service and then decided to stop then you're held hostage by the company to have your personal details removed. These, it says, include your credit card details which, of course, feature your full, real name.

The hackers, interestingly, say that this £15 charge is a lie, and the credit card details are not, in fact, removed when you pay up. That means that anyone who did cough for the charge still might have their details exposed by this data theft. That's going to make some people pretty nervous.

CEO Noel Biderman says that the company knows who is responsible, and they are taking action to have that person dealt with by the relevant authorities. As yet they don't seem to have addressed the issue at the core of the hacker's motivation - the fact that details are not removed as promised.
